WHAT IS A SOUND BATH?
A sound bath invites you into the practice of deep listening, using sound as a guide to access a relaxed, meditative state—without the need to think your way there. Sound becomes the container, offering a direct, embodied sense of what meditation feels like. This makes sound baths accessible to both beginners and seasoned meditators by gently quieting the mind.
At the heart of this experience is entrainment—the brain’s natural ability to synchronize with external rhythms and frequencies. As sound patterns repeat and resonate, brainwaves gradually shift from beta (alert, waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed awareness), and often into deeper states such as theta (meditative) and delta (deep rest and healing). This process supports nervous system regulation, enhances mental clarity, and fosters emotional release.
Just as breath anchors awareness in traditional meditation, in a sound bath, frequency becomes the guiding force. The vibrational nature of sound acts as the agent of transformation, helping the mind and body return to balance.
WHAT IS SOUND THERAPY?
Sound has been used across cultures for thousands of years as a tool for connection, communication, and healing. From Hindu mantras to the medicine songs of Indigenous peoples and Pythagoras’ work with frequency and interval, these practices share a common purpose: to help restore balance.
Sound therapy is both a passive and participatory experience. Passively, you relax—lying down and slowing your breath—preparing to receive the sound. At the same time, you actively engage by becoming more present and aware of each tone as it moves through you. Like mantra or mindful breathing, sound becomes a pathway to stillness and deep presence.
While sound therapy can be profoundly calming—inducing states similar to meditation or even sleep—it can also stir a range of experiences. In creating space to become your own witness, you may encounter unresolved emotions or insights. In this way, sound can support not only relaxation, but also inner exploration and healing.
